PE Task 2

PE Task 2

During this sampling unit I feel I could have explored a lot more. Being stuck on a certain subject and not developing enough found me losing interest and finding it hard to produce work of a good standard. I like some of the work I have produced in and out of my sketch book but I would have liked all my work to of been at this standard. I definitely engaged more with hand stitch as I like working with a textured surface and I felt I was more in control, the machine stitch skills we did I felt took me a lot longer to get my head round and in six weeks I did not have enough time for me to be taking a slow start, like I did. I have a real passion for hand stitch and feel I excelled a lot more during those 3 weeks, even though my subject could have been developed a lot more I can see I tried a lot of different media and process'. Looking at putting different textures on different fabrics has allowed me to explore hand stitch in a different light. This unit has been a great learning curve for me, realising that I don't have to stick to one subject, I can explore and move on to other things. I did what I could with the knowledge I had at the beginning and throughout this unit, however, after this lesson I will be developing my work and applying all these things to the next unit.

Cornelia Parker- The exploded shed

In this sculpture I like the depth and the use of line, it creates these abstract shadows which are stunning on their own. The shadows and lighting have made the depth in this image increase immensely, the tonal values do this too. In a future project I would love to create work as moving and successful as this, an installation at a large scale is one of my aims during my time at university, whether its to do with line or not it would be a great achievement.

This sculpture is another large scale but made form a very different media, paper. The light shining through the installation creates depth and the way it has been photographed does this too. This image reminds me of an ice cave and someone stuck looking up through it trying to get out, this is created by the blurred lines at the top where the light is shining through.

Sophie Tottie - Written Language

Lines have been the main view in my project, using a lot of parallel lines throughout. The first section of the image creates a blurred look and this is not that easy on the eye, however, I like the flow that runs through it and the pathway change of the line at the end. It looks delicate in some ways due to the thin lines but is dense as well with it all being so close together. The image also looks 3D in some ways with the angle change, creating a 'V' shape. I have stuck to quite a wide line width however I would like to do a dense piece like this and see where it takes me.

Experimenting is Key

These are some of the textures and samples I have made, inspired by my sketch book work.

Data Assignment - Sketch Book Work

For this project I have stuck to using a black and white palette, in and out of my sketch book. My main focus has been line, looking at mapped journeys and bar codes. I tried to create a lot of different textures with different media
