During this unit I have enjoyed learning new skills and involving myself in all different workshops. My favourite workshop has to have been the laser cut, it opened many opportunities for me and helped me figure out what pathway I wanted to go down. I firstly looked at laser cut furniture and found some pieces designed by Gianluigi Landoni. The light that shines through creates these amazing shadows and these are as stunning as the pieces themselves! After seeing these, I started with my own laser cut surfaces using circles as my main focus point. I experimented with different surfaces, scales and tones, I also introduced wax into my designs to create a textural surface as I find it difficult working straight onto a plain canvas.

Gianluigi Landoni is an architect and designer and creates stunning furniture like these pieces above and below.
This modern style of chair really accommodates the rose pattern that has been cut through, I would love to make a laser cut chair or table or any type of furniture that is as stunning and as effective as these, the pattern of the roses make the furniture look delicate even though they are stern enough for someone to use day to day. The pattern also projects a beautiful shadows with either artificial or natural light, creating a piece of art in itself.

This unit has opened my eyes to a lot of new and different things, I have found out things I would never thought I could do or could be achieved by a simple machine. Even though I could have definitely done more, I see in my sketch book and out of it too that I have developed my ideas and shown an interest in the task in hand, I loved my starting point and I enjoyed the way i carried it on and the pathway I went down. However, I would have loved a lot more time on this and been able to create my own piece of furniture or a large scale laser cut piece, I would like to continue all the things I have learned and used and would also like to develop these in further units as I think they would be a positive addition to any project I do.
